***** Chapter 1 *****
I look out the window as we drive. Watching the tall trees slump and sway with
the storm. A thin fog covering the air, blending the sky into a solid grey. The
smell of leather and oil permeating the interior of the classic car. Old rock
music humming just loud enough to be heard over the engine and the rain.
I let my gaze wander down from the window to the worn interior of the door. My
chest tight with anxiety, and my left hand gripping my duct taped back pack on
the floor beside me. I peek up at the bent side mirror, showing me the empty
back seat of the car. And I wonder for a second what it would be like to have
that space filled again. If only once more.
A deep breath in, and then out. I close my eyes against the world. My right
hand now gripping the handle of the passenger door. I tug it open, the wind and
rain hitting my face with force. I am not prepared for the events that flash
before me after that.
"Dean!!"
My body soars through the air, almost like I'm flying. But it doesn't last long
before I'm colliding with the road.
My shoulder hits first, my arm collapsing like one of those cheap dinner trays
you can buy at home depot. Then my face touches gravel, pieces of rocks sliding
under my skin and shredding it. My cheek and jaw shattering in a matter of
seconds. I am sure there's blood in my mouth, metallic and warm, I can taste
it. I'm not even sure that I should be able to feel it, not with the shape my
face is in at this point.
Then I'm rolling, my body like a rag doll across the road. Limbs uncontrollable
as I finally start to slow towards the long grass beyond. When I finally come
to a stop I'm surprised to feel the wet grass underneath my arms. The sound of
birds singing, and leaves rustling above me. The pain goes silent for a blissed
moment.
"Dean?"
I startle, opening my eyes to reality. Where I sit still in the passenger seat
with my backpack in my hand. Realizing that the car is no longer moving,
instead, parked off to the side of the busy road. I sigh, looking over to my
dad in the driver seat. He stares back at me with sad eyes. No doubt exhausted
at such an early hour. Fine lines running through his face confirming just how
old he has gotten.
"Yeah?" I reply.
"You're sure you're gonna be okay?" He asks me.
I suck in a deep breath, looking over at the brick building towering above us.
It's premises swarming with students, and parents. The letters on the front
golden and rusted, reading Far Water High.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I say in an exasperated tone. My heart racing at the thought
of walking into the school alone. I have always had someone by my side. No
matter what.
"You will need to ride the bus home after school." My dad says suddenly.
I perk up in my seat, flipping my gaze back to him. "What?" I blurt. There's no
way he's going to make me do that.
"I've got to work a double today, and I won’t have time to pick you up." He
explains, sipping on his steaming mug of burnt coffee.
My heart races in my ears, my fathers expression closed off. Managing to make
himself look even more exhausted than before. I already feel bad for making him
take me to school today, but there is no way he's going to make me ride the bus
home. Not so soon after…
"You promised." I say through my teeth, sadness welling on the inside, but
anger burning on the outside. My dad sighs out of frustration, setting his
cracked mug down. There is anger in his eyes now, subtle but terrifying none
the less.
"Dean-" He says, his voice rough.
"No! You pr-" I practically yell back, stopping mid sentence, my hands shaking.
I don't mean to sound so angry, but I can’t express my sadness the way that I
want. Not to my father. Not like this.
"I know what I promised, okay? But I don't have a choice." He responds, his
knuckles white where he grips the steering wheel.
I hunch my shoulders, glaring at the side of his head.
"What if I just walk?" I ask after a moment, in a smaller voice.
I hope he agrees for the sake of my well being…
No such luck.
"Dean, I said no." He growls, his voice like a physical punch to the stomach. I
open my mouth to argue, rage showing on my face. But just as quickly as I
opened it I snap it back closed again.
"You better get going before you're late." He says. And I know it's final when
he looks away from me and puts the car in drive. His hand already reaching for
his mug once more.
With nothing more to say I swing my back pack onto my shoulder. And step out of
the car, the door squeaking as I slam it shut behind me. A way to convey my
anger in a childish moment. My dad drives away seconds later. Leaving me here,
alone.
I tug my bag so it's pressed firmly against my back, the duct tape I put on the
strap a year ago surprisingly strong. Then when reality starts to set in I
stand up a bit taller, putting on a confident face and start forward. Some
people glance at me when I walk past, but overall I'm invisible.

***** Chapter 2 *****
Chapter Summary
This is by no means ready for me to be posting it❤ it's only a rough
draft. But I wanted to share something since I've been gone so long.
"Why don't you take a seat, Mr. Winchester." The woman sitting behind the large
brown desk says. Her eyes glued to her computer screen, and her long nails
tapping against the chipping wood. I roll my eyes mentally at her, taking a
seat against the wall as asked.
I keep my eyes on the floor, my shoes covered in dirt and falling apart at the
seams. I will have to buy new ones soon, or invest in more duct tape…
I sigh, glancing back up at the woman at her desk.
"Mam?" I ask, impatient.
She looks up to me curiously, the awful tapping of her nails stopping for a
only a moment. I'm about to ask her about my paper, when the heavy door beside
me swings open. So close to hitting my leg that I almost fall out of my chair
trying to dodge it. The girl that walks through has hair the color of fire, and
a bag adorned with pins.
She smiles brightly down at me. "Sorry!" she says, walking over to the desk the
woman sits at with the same bright smile on her face. The woman looks from me
to the girl, a grin plastering her face now.
"How are you, dear?" She asks the red haired girl.
"Oh I'm good, great actually! I have that paper you asked for." She says,
digging through her bag and pulling out a printed page.
"Good. I wish they would just get ours fixed so we don't have to run back and
forth all of the time." She answers taking the paper from the girl and standing
from her chair.
Her expression completely changes when she looks back over to me. And I'm not
exactly surprised by it.
"Here you go, Winchester." She says, holding the paper out to me.
I stand quickly, snatching the page from her hands. "Thanks." I mumble, turning
to leave as I shove the schedule into my bag.
"Wait!" The girl shouts after me, her feet pattering across the school tile.
She catches up, with a smile on her face. "So you’re the new kid." She says
excitedly, following me as I turn down another hallway. I look over my shoulder
at her briefly, confusion written all over my face.
"Please don't." I say to her, searching for my locker as I walk.
"Don't what?" She asks, fiddling with her bag.
"Act like this is some cliché movie and call me the new kid." I return,
stopping in front of the locker I believe to be mine. She snorts, leaning
against the lockers next to mine as I search for the paper with my combination
number on it.
"Okay, fine. Then what's your name? and I will think about calling you
something else." She says.
I glance at her from under my lashes. "I have to get to class." I say, hoping
this girl will leave me alone.
She almost looks disappointed, but then she's giddy all over again. Her hands
grabbing at the paper I just pulled out of my bag.
"Dean." She reads aloud, looking up at me with a smile. I roll my eyes taking
the paper back from her with a glare.
"I'm Charlie." She says, rolling forward on her toes so she is almost as tall
as i. "Your first hour is on the way to mine. How about I take you? Since you
know, you’re the new kid and all." I look away from her overly excited face, my
stomach in knots.
I feel another vision coming on…
I let go of my bag from my cold and shaking hands, listening to it drop to the
ground with a thump. Raising my head up high as I grab a handful of her red,
red hair. She looks so confused, jerking back from me like she has been
shocked. But I don't seem to care or notice, even as she is clawing and pushing
at my chest and face. My hold is too tight for her to get away. I smile,
Jerking her back and then forward quickly, effectively breaking her nose
against the lockers. I don't stop yet, I pull her back twice more. Tears and
screams pouring out of the once pretty girl as she tries to fight me off.
When I stop I see that there is a dent in the middle of the top locker, blood
blending in with the red paint as it runs down to the floor. I let her fall to
the ground in shock, looking down at my own hands with wide eyes. Charlie's
cries and screams slowly melting into nothing. I back away until I run into the
locker. Looking back down where I had dropped Charlie, but frowning in
confusion when I see her standing in front of me instead where she had been
before. I blink quickly in shock. Her lips holding the same smile as before,
and her face and hair clear of any blood.
"No." I blurt out, realizing she had asked me a question. And gripping my bag
that I had never even dropped tighter to my back. "No thank you." I correct
myself quickly, realizing how rude I had sounded.
She smiles despite my answer, her eyes sweet as she looks up at me. "I will see
you around then, dean." she chirps, joining a girl that walks past me down the
hall of people with a smile. I watch her go with dread filling my chest.
Forgetting all about my locker as my stomach flips upsettingly.
Luckily there is no one in the mens bathroom when I burst through the door. And
I am at least grateful for that much as I quickly close the door behind me and
flip the lock. Leaning back against the cold wood with shallow breaths and
closed eyes.
This was going to be a long day.
….

I can only afford a sandwich and a can of coke when lunch time rolls around.
But that seems better than nothing at all. I hold my tray close and weave
through the tables. My eyes set on one particular empty table outside of the
school. Of course its empty due to the grey and clouded sky above, but rain
doesn’t bother me as much as it does other people.
"Dean!" I hear a shrill and overly excited voice say. My head snapping to the
side from where the voice is coming from. My heart stopping momentarily as I
see those wide and hazel eyes staring at me from where he sits. His hair a bit
longer than I remembered, but his face and eyes still as child like as I have
ever known.
Sam, I think.
You're gone.
I close my eyes quickly, and take a deep breath.
Its not real…I wish it was.
"Dean."
I open my eyes again to see Charlie sitting where my brother had before. Her
eyes a bit more worried than the last time I saw her, but her lips still lifted
into a smile. I smile back just the slightest so she doesn’t start to worry.
"Come sit." she says, scooting over and patting the space of bench beside her.
Her friends all looking at me as I walk over to do as she said. Shifting a bit
as I look around the table just one more time. Pressing myself into the space
and setting my tray down in front of me as I do.
"This is dean. The new kid." Charlie smiles, bumping me with her shoulder a
bit. While a few unfamiliar people smile and greet me with a hello. One
particular deep voice standing out to me, but not having time to linger on it
as I look at Charlie again.
"And this is my girlfriend Carrie." she gestured to a pretty Burnette beside
her. "My friend Ash, Castiel, and his demon brother Gabriel." She says,
gesturing to a man with a mullet playing on a laptop. Another with longer hair
and golden eyes. And then one with bright blue eyes and an oversized trench
coat.
"Girlfriend?" I stumble, a bit surprised and caught off guard. Tearing my eyes
away from the blue eyed man to look at Charlie.
"Girlfriend. She totally wasn’t hitting on you earlier, Charlie is just
extremely chipper." Carrie smiles from beside Charlie, both girls smiling at
each other. The golden eyed man making a gagging noise, and then laughing when
Charlie kicks him under the table.
"So new kid, huh?" Gabriel leans in, wiggling his brows suggestively at me.
Charlie quickly leaning in to take Gabriel's candy bar from his tray. Causing a
whole conversation on why Gabriel should sit with his own friends if he wanted
to keep his candy.

….

I tug my jacket closer around my shivering body as I stand out in the freezing
rain. Staring at the large yellow busses all lined up outside the school. All
of the other kids either on the busses, running to their cars, or huddling
together beside the doors of the school to stay dry.
I on the other hand, am soaked with the rain and hugging myself as my teeth
chatter together from the cold. Just staring ahead at the busses like they are
a puzzle I cant figure out.
Unsure if I was brave enough to do this, to move on like nothing had happened…
"You're going to catch something standing out here in the rain." a voice says
from beside me suddenly, making my heart leap into my throat as I jump back out
of surprise. I look over at the boy beside me as the rain stops coming down on
my shoulders. An umbrella now being held above my head when I look up. The grey
sky visible through the clear top of it.
"You don’t mind the rain do you?" He asks, his bright blue eyes standing out
against his tan trench coat and grey sweater.
"No. not really." I shrug, pulling my bag slightly closer to myself. Staring
back at the boy a moment longer, a small smile lifting his lips as he nods back
at me in agreement.
"Me either. Its actually quite calming." he says as I look back to the busses
again quietly. Not even sure which is mine, or how long I had to get on them.
"I should g-." I cut off midsentence as the boy says something at the same time
as i.
"Do you need a ride?"
I stop, glancing back over to him curiously. "Oh.." I pause. It would be nice
to not have to ride the bus. And this guy doesn't seem all that bad. He was
friends with Charlie after all.
"That would be nice…yes." I agree, nodding and smiling just a bit over at him.
"Come on then." he smiles back at me, leading the way out to a small tan car.
And unlocking the doors quickly as he takes the umbrella down, and throws it
into the car on the back seat. Both of us getting in before the rain makes us
anymore wet than we already are.
"The heater sucks in here, but it will warm up eventually." he says as I buckle
myself into the car with a shiver. Wrapping my arms around my self after
dropping my bag onto the floor. My teeth still chattering as I nod and watch
him turn the car on and then the vents. Cold air blasting through them and
making my skin prickle more, before it is warming up and I am relaxing again..
Rubbing my arms as I look over at the blue eyed boy again.
"What was your name again?" I ask as he puts the car into drive and pulls away
from the school.
"Castiel." he answers, glancing over at me with the same slight smile as
before.
"And you are dean right?" he asks, nodding as I do with another one of his
bright smiles.
"I think you live just down the road from me. My parents helped your father
move in some boxes the other day." he mentions, glancing over at me again as I
nod. Finally letting my arms drop from where I had been hugging myself from the
cold.
"May I ask where you had moved from, Dean?" he asks, my eyes traveling over to
the windshield wipers as they move back and forth quickly. A thin fog starting
to move out onto the dark and wet roads as Castiel drives.
"Kansas…" I mumble in answer, looking back over at Castiel again. Wondering if
he was as nervous as I right now.
"That’s quite a ways away." Castiel comments, his eyes on the road this time as
he pulls the car down our road.
"It is. My dad got offered a job that he didn't want to pass up." I say.
It's not a complete lie.
But its definitely not the truth either.
Castiel only nods this time to what I have said, his leg a bit restless as it
bounces up and down. Proving that I am not the only one that feels out of place
here.
I look back out the window as things start to go quiet between us. Bouncing my
own leg a bit and gripping the strap to my bag tighter. Grateful that I didn’t
live too far from the school, or Castiel for that matter. Even if he was a
complete stranger with oddly blue eyes. He was friendly, and he did seem to be
genuine in at least that.
When the car comes to a stop in front of my house, I waste no time in grabbing
my things and getting out. Waving in thanks quickly as I close the door behind
me. And running inside before Castiel could say anything else.
I drop my bag and close the door behind me when I get inside. Looking around at
the mostly empty house, a lone couch with a lamp next to it sitting in the
middle of the room. While a few other boxes sit stacked beside that waiting to
be unpacked.
I know my dad isn't home yet due to the extremely dark and quiet house. Which I
am not grateful for I try to flip on the light and it only flickers. loud
thunder rolling outside as I make my way upstairs to get into some dry clothes.
My stomach growling and turning, the sandwich I had for lunch not being enough
to hold me off until morning.
I sigh softly as I run back downstairs and into the kitchen. Digging though
some boxes for something to hold me off until tomorrow. And smiling when I find
a can of soup, doing a little happy dance until I realize that I don’t have a
pan to cook it in.
I look around at the stacks of brown boxes around the small kitchen. None of
them marked and more than half of them already opened from when I found the
soup.
I sigh as I look back down at the can in my hand, setting it on one of the
counters. And bringing my hand down over my face tiredly. I suppose I could
wait until morning for something to eat, or I could just eat it cold. My hand
drops back down from my face as I open my eyes. Stumbling back against the edge
of the corner of the counter when I see a pair of eyes peeking at me from the
door way.
A flash of lightening showing me just a flash of brown wavy hair clumped with
blood.
"Sam!" I gasp, stumbling forward and flicking the switch on the wall to try and
get a better look. It doesn't work, the power still out. I Stumble back over to
the boxes, hearing my brothers faint but fast breathing from the dark hall
beside me. My heart racing as I throw things out of the way to find the
flashlight I saw earlier.
Pulling it out and flicking it on when I finally grasp it between my fingers.
The light flickering a moment as I point it into the dark hall, but then
brightening up and staying strong.
My heart sinks in my chest as I see nothing but the empty hall in front of me.
